Rokoā.
Healing grounded in wairua, whenua and whakapapa.
At Te Hā o Maru, we honour the wisdom of our tīpuna through the practice of Rokoā Māori — traditional Māori healing that nurtures the whole person: tinana (body), hinekaro (mind), wairua (spirit) and whānau.
Our Pou Rokoā are experienced, trusted practitioners who walk alongside whānau on their healing journeys. Through the use of mirimiri, romiromi, rongoā rākau, karakia and mahi wairua, we offer holistic care that connects you back to yourself, your whakapapa and te taiao (the natural world).
Our Rokoā Services Include:
Mirimiri – Therapeutic Healing Bodywork
Mirimiri is a gentle form of bodywork that restores balance and releases physical and emotional blockages. It supports circulation, mobility, and relaxation, while helping the body to heal naturally.
Romiromi – Deep Tissue Healing
Romiromi is a deeper, more intense form of bodywork that works on the muscle, bone and energy pathways (whatu manawa). It can support trauma release, chronic pain, stress and spiritual imbalance. Romiromi reconnects the wairua and tinana, grounding your mauri.
Rokoā Rākau – Traditional Plant Medicine
We use native plants and natural remedies, harvested with tikaka, to support healing inside and out. Rokoā rākau may come in the form of:
Tinctures and tonics
Infusions and teas
Balms and oils
Bath or steam preparations
Our Pou Rokoā work with you to create personalised blends that suit your needs and kaupapa.
Karakia and Mahi Wairua – Spiritual Support
Healing begins with intention. Karakia (prayer) is woven through all our work — to open and close healing spaces, offer protection, and clear wairua blockages.
Our mahi wairua may also include:
Wairua cleansing (spiritual clearings)
Whakapapa reconnection
Support through mamae, grief, or trauma
Mauri balancing and energy realignment
We hold space for your wairua to be heard and healed.
Other Rokoā Modalities You May Access
Depending on your needs and the guidance of our Pou Rokoā, your healing may include:
Whakawhānau tinana (supporting fertility and reproductive health)
Whakanoa (removal of tapu, lifting heaviness)
Wai rākau therapies (medicinal water treatments)
Matakite and wairua guidance (spiritual insight and direction)
Support alongside Western medicine (integrative healing with GP or hospital care)
All rokoā is delivered with tikaka, manaakitaka and aroha, and is personalised for the individual and their whānau.
Rokoā Māori is for everyone — Māori and non-Māori, pēpi to kaumātua. Whether you are:
Living with illness or injury
Struggling with stress, mamae or trauma
Seeking reconnection to your taha wairua or whakapapa
In need of preventative care or rebalancing... our Pou Rokoā are here for you
